01 / The method

A personal practice, held within a shared room.

Mysore style is the traditional way of learning Ashtanga Yoga. Each student moves through an individually appropriate sequence, guided one-to-one by the teacher. The room may be shared, but the teaching is personal.

Rather than following a general class, you learn the sequence gradually. Postures are introduced when the breath, attention and body are ready for them. This creates a practice that can develop with intelligence over time.

Beginners and experienced practitioners practise together. You do not need to know the sequence before joining; the method is learned by doing.

  • 01Breath establishes the rhythm of the practice.
  • 02Posture is developed with precision and patience.
  • 03Gaze gathers attention and steadies the mind.
